Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The ESHG 2027 conference will be held in Rotterdam, the Dutch port with such a lively history and a dynamic present. The ESHG conference is the major event in the calendar for much of the human and medical genetics community in Europe – and even beyond – and perhaps the single greatest ongoing contribution of the society to our disciplines.
Each conference is a great opportunity for science, for friendship, and for pursuing the one through the other … pursuing research interests through friendships and vice versa. I trust that ESHG27 will prove to be another occasion for all these activities. I am especially keen that early career scientists and clinicians will participate as it is vital for their future careers, and for human genetics in Europe, that they can benefit from these “friendship ó science” links. Virtual, online participation is not enough for them. It is crucial that our younger colleagues continue to attend ESHG in person and that funding continues to allow this.
I am looking forward to the event already, to the new science I will encounter, to the old friends I will meet again, and to the new friends I will meet for the first time.
